2022 Nastiest Malware Report - New Cyber24 Podcast

opentext

OpenText Security released their “2022 Nastiest Malware Report,” a review of what they have seen to be the most prevalent and deadly malware throughout the year. Similar to how kids might rank the evilest Sith Lord, this report ranks malware and malware organizations; unlike ranking Sith Lords, however, this data can provide valuable data for those who looking to defend their organizations.

The Cyber 24 Podcast is joined again by Tyler Moffitt, a senior security analyst at OpenText, who talks about some of the trends they’ve seen and how to combat them. Unfortunately, much of the news of this year’s report is bad news: higher average ransom payments, less respite from repeated attacks, and triple extortion practices (up from double, somehow).

Fortunately, there are still tools and practices that can help stem this tide of malware and phishing attacks. Many of these are familiar: Moffitt recommends monthly phishing simulations and repeated targeting of employees that are comprised during simulations and purchasing premium RDP software.

Listen in for a complete list of suggestions and breakdowns of the top malware of 2022.
