Salt Lake City, UT — VLCM announced today that Niel Nickolaisen has joined the company as a consultant, supporting VLCM customers as they evaluate emerging technologies, make informed technology decisions, and strengthen their impact as technology leaders.
VLCM has long focused on the success of technology leaders, their teams, and the organizations they support. As the pace of technology change accelerates, technology leaders are being asked to evaluate more tools, vendors, and strategies—often with limited time and increasing accountability for outcomes.
To better support customers navigating these demands, VLCM is expanding several initiatives designed to help technology leaders make confident, defensible decisions and stay ahead of what’s coming next.
These initiatives include a dedicated emerging technology practice that evaluates and validates new technologies and providers. With an expanding technology landscape and limited bandwidth within IT teams, VLCM is investing in the expertise and relationships needed to assess new solutions on behalf of customers—cutting through noise and reducing risk.
VLCM is also building a peer network for technology leaders, designed to encourage shared learning, practical discussion, and the exchange of proven approaches. The goal is to give VLCM customers access to peer insights and thought leadership that help improve outcomes and influence across their organizations.
Nickolaisen will play a key role in shaping both initiatives, informed by decades of experience as a CIO and CTO and a long track record of advancing how technology leaders make decisions. He is the author of two books: The Agile Culture: Leading Through Trust and Leadership and Stand Back and Deliver: Accelerating Business Agility. He has written hundreds of articles on modernization, technology alignment, AI readiness and use cases, and technology selection, and currently serves as an Adjunct Research Advisor at IDC.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Niel Nickolaisen to the VLCM team,” says Mike Linton, CEO of VLCM, “With more than 25 years of IT leadership experience, Niel brings deep expertise that will be a tremendous asset to our clients as they navigate digital transformation, AI adoption, and how to get the greatest impact from their IT investments.”
Nickolaisen has a long-standing relationship with VLCM and will work with both existing and prospective customers to support technology strategy, leadership development, and emerging technology evaluation.
“At VLCM, our mission has always been to help technology leaders succeed—not by selling hype, but by earning trust. Niel embodies that approach,” says Brandon Madsen, President of VLCM. He brings the experience, credibility, and judgment we trust to advise our clients as they navigate rapid change and rising expectations.”
